Week In Review

Despite challenging conditions this past week with strong winds sweeping across the front side of Ambergris Caye, our expert guides demonstrated why El Pescador remains the premier fishing destination in Belize. By adapting tactics and utilizing their intimate knowledge of local waters, our guides led anglers to productive fishing grounds on the leeward side of the island and among the protective mangrove networks.

Bonefish remained the most consistent catch, with guests finding good numbers in the protected flats. These silver speedsters provided excellent action for both veteran saltwater anglers and those experiencing the thrill of a bonefish run for the first time. Our guides' patient instruction helped newcomers master the quick strip-set technique needed to connect with these lightning-fast fish.

The permit fishing, while challenging as always, produced several notable catches. These prized gamefish were found tailing in select protected areas where our guides carefully positioned anglers for the perfect presentation. Remember, when targeting permit, patience and precision are everything!

Tarpon activity continued in the mangrove channels, with several guests connecting with juvenile silver kings in the 20-40 pound range. These spectacular, acrobatic fish provided unforgettable moments with their gill-rattling jumps and powerful runs.

While snook proved elusive this week, anglers rounded out their catches with snappers, barracuda, jacks and other species that added variety to the fishing experience.

Looking ahead to next week, our guides are anticipating moderating winds and improving conditions across all fishing zones. This is an excellent time to experience the legendary Grand Slam opportunity that makes Ambergris Caye famous among fly fishing enthusiasts worldwide.

For those planning their first saltwater fly fishing adventure, remember that our guides specialize in teaching the unique techniques required for success on the flats. From proper casting in the wind to spotting fish, they'll ensure you have all the skills needed for a productive day on the water.

Tight lines from all of us at El Pescador Lodge and Villas!
