August brought the core of the tarpon migration with numerous fish in the 80 - 100 pound range and several closer to 150. With near perfect conditions, we had many multiple tarpon per boat. For those of you wading for trout, you may want to consider coming down to “flats heaven” for some big game fishing in skinny water.
Speaking of wading, we continue to enjoy more and more bones in the 5-7 lb range. Our bones are in a growth phase, and wading for these bigger fish is quite a challenge and very rewarding.
Permit have been prevalent as well; this month we counted 13 grand slams (one angler had 2 in the same week). Slams are never easy or to be taken lightly, and when you land a slam here, you have earned it. One of our slam anglers topped his day off with a 15 pound jack and a snook in the same weight range.
So take a look at your calendar and find a week where you can come join the fun.
