April brings spring to our area and with it came Stan and Phyllis S., frequent guests. As usual Stan caught fish every day, including several big bones and had multiple shots at permit in the 15 pound range; and regaled us with stories at dinner.
Brendan and Lara R, of Jackson Hole returned with several friends, and Brendan showed his buddies how cast to and catch Bones, Permit and Tarpon. They caught bones ranging from 2 and a half to five pounds. Several days the number of fish caught was in the 20s.
Peter M., one of America's leading nature writers, environmentalists and friend of El Pescador returned with Victor E. and several friends to fish and explore our island bird-life. They were successful on all fronts. The group landed bones and 2 permit one was about 7 or 8 lbs and the other was close to the ten pound mark. Their birding 'finds' included the rare prothonotary warbler, in large numbers along with dozens of wading birds in the flats.
Fishing in general has been good with an emphasis on Permit…first time guest Jim V. of Olympia Washington enjoyed catching his first Permit on a fly. A ten pounder no less. Jim also landed his first bonefish, all in all he caught between 30 and 40 bones on his first ever time in the salt.
